Communications

This is a fairly important piece of equipment to have if you are going to be spending any time on the trail with friends. All sorts of useful information gets passed through a radio, such as the 5000 foot drop off that can't be seen on approach of the next obstacle. My advice to you is to do a little bit of research and purchase a good radio and then take it to a pro and have the antenna tuned to match. Don't do like I did and purchase the first el cheapo that comes along. I have had several radios go on the trail. To make matters worse, everyone will talk about you if they know you can't defend yourself.

I am running a Uniden PRO538W. So far this radio has been working fine. I especially like the front firing speaker, It sure helps when the top is down and you can't hear yourself think.
Some of the features include three weather channels, PA & external speaker jacks and RF gain.
Here you can see how I ran the wires through the cage. I definately could have made things easier on myself if I had made holes and just generally thought it out BEFORE the cage was built. That is another story though.
