Oh man, it won't fit!

How many times have we all said this? I remember my first Rubicon trip, we tossed a coin to see who would carry the jumper cables. The storage problem can be overcome many different ways and mine of course is...well...mine. It took me a few tries to finally come up with a setup that works for me. I only needed room for three people so that bench seat went the way of the dodo, for now anyway. That crappy Steel Horse console had to go too since the only thing that it was doing was falling apart. I needed to build storage for all of the permanent necessities such as tools and spare parts, stuff that will stay in the jeep all of the time. I needed the storage to designed so that I could stack the non-permanent stuff on and around it.

Here is what I put together for a console. I used two ammo cans, one tall one and one short one. I bolted them to a fram that I made and then bolted them to the tub. Granted, it isn't pretty but it is functional, durable and waterproof. I am really happy with this setup.
Here is the box that I store all of my permanent stuff in. Fluids spares and some of the larger tools. It's made from aluminum tread plate and an angle iron frame. the tread plate is attached to the frame with tek screws. I placed two locks in the lid for security.
Here it is opened up.
Here is my tool box. I picked up a craftsman four drawer and bolted it to the tub. It of course locks but you could probably force the drawers pretty easily. I solved that proble by always locking the tailgate. There is space between the seat and the tool box where I keep my strap. Odds and ends will usually get tossed back there during a trip. nothing dangerous though, my daughter sits bak there.
Here is the seat that I decided to use. Sorry for the dark picture but I couldn't force the damn camera to flash for some reason. Anyway, this is one of the old buckets out of Bill Duty's Toyota pickup. I threw a seat cover on it and there you have it, perfect size for a kid.
Just thought I would throw in a picture of my first aid kit. Very important stuff!
